Dr. Ephraimuel Jose Loperez-Abellana is the new Appointed Dean of the Philippine Women’s University’s School of Hospitality Management, Academic Year 2019-2020.





Dr. Abellana started his teaching career in 2002 and has many years of experience in the academe and hospitality industry as well as in airline ground-handling and restaurant services.

Prior to coming to Philippine Women’s University, Dr. Abellana or Dean Prime worked at the Far Eastern University where he was the Institute Associate Dean, and as Program Head of the Hotel and Restaurant Management department. His research is focused on hospitality and tourism planning and development, sustainability in tourism, entrepreneurship and business. He has attended research conferences either as a presenter or as the session chair locally and internationally. These assignments brought him to places such as New Zealand, Republic of India, South Korea, Indonesia, Republic of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and his native country, the Philippines. He has published his researches in a referred international journal publications like the International Journal Culture and Tourism; the Korean Academic Society of Culture and Tourism and the Amity Research Journal of Tourism, Aviation and Hospitality.

Dean Prime has received numerous awards and citations in his teaching profession. He is a Certified Hospitality Educator; Certified Guest Service Professional (in Tourism, Golden opportunities and Making Connections); a Certified Security Lodging Officer recognized by the reputable certification body, the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institutions (AHLEI) and a Certified ServSafe Manager by the American National Standards Institute and Restaurant Association Solutions. He is one of the founding members of Tourism Security Professionals Association of Davao Incorporated (TSPADI).

He sits as Research Panel Chair of students’ final paper presentations in the different universities. He has reviewed research papers here and abroad like the Asia Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institution (APacCHRIE), and the University of San Jose-Recoletos Multi-disciplinary Journal. He has co-authored books in Food and Beverage Service Procedures, Resort Management, Dessert Merchandising and Basic Baking.

Dr. Abellana conducts seminars on the fundamentals of research and team building talks in the industry as well as different professional hospitality organizations and universities all over the Philippines. He is an elected National Board of Director (for the Education Committee) to the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP).

Dean Prime is a Cebuano. More often, he travels thrice a year to Cebu. He is happily married for 13 years now to Dr. Janice Alejo-Abellana, an alumna of the PWU-JASMS in Quezon City. His wife is an FEU IT Professor and a researcher. What they enjoy most together is visiting their farm and properties in West Cebu every semester break and in the summer.
