Internalizing the Three Functions of the Mind Through Your Own Examples
Read and think about the diagram and content below, then do
the activity, to bring the content on this page alive in your mind:
Now take any one of the bullet points in a section from the diagram above (thinking, feeling or wanting) and make connections to the bullet points in the other sections, from your own life. For example, “I feel happy when I have an important purpose to pursue, and when I have fully analyzed this purpose for significance.” Or, “I feel anxious when I have failed to clarify my purpose and it is therefore muddy in my own mind.” Or, “I feel worried about my marriage because I have failed to analyze what is going on in my marriage, due to the many arguments me and my spouse are now having.” (the last example just brings in two of the three functions of the mind, which is fine for this activity.)
