I teach basic English in college. I focus most my energy on learning and teaching argumentation. I look to help understand how scientific and academic fields generally make arguments to form knowledge and compare this to how arguments are had in public, personal, and/or political situations. I’ve done my best to understand philosophy—with and emphasis in epistemology and morality—and critical thinking. I believe these things aren’t taught well in schools and certainly aren’t presented in an interesting or engaging way. I did very poorly in K-12 and didn’t become interested in these things until college. I was for most of my life a fundamentalist Christian conservative heavy in to conspiratorial thought and I look to have conversations with those in my former group and teach young students who may believe some of the things I used to. I do this to expand my understanding of these groups and bridge the divide between the academic/scientific community and the American public. I am also interested in the role that rhetoric can play in making these ideas more appealing to people.

I spend a lot of time meditating and being mindful and am general interest in the internal search and struggle. I’m also personally interested in self-defense. This involves learning mixed martial arts, the proper and safest use of weapons, and situational awareness.

Through many conversations, I’ve built a list in order to find universal principles we can use to build knowledge and come to moral conclusions as much as possible. I’ve also created a game based on the Toulmin model that helps people form full arguments and then challenge arguments to build or reduce confidence in certain claims.

I guess overall all, I am looking to the live the most open, peaceful, and truthful life I possibly can. I’ve learned to control my emotions very well, am nice, and not very judgmental. I love talking to people and always up for a conversation, so always feel free to say hi and start a convo!
