Activity:
Analyze Sociocentric Uses of Words
Be on the lookout for groups using words
in ways that serve their interests, but
which violate or negate educated uses
of those words. A good place to look is in
news articles.
Identify the words being used and the reasons
such words are used. What might the group gain
through this use of language? What do their words
really mean (as compared with what they want the
reader to think they mean)?
