Analyze Speciescentrism Within Our Cultures
Speciescentrism has been exemplified throughout human history, and causes untold suffering to creatures outside the human “in-group.” Humans systematically violate the rights of animals. These violations are easily rationalized by human perpetrators when we assume, quite conveniently, that animals feel no pain.
Answer the questions below:
1. To what extent do you see speciescentrism as a problem in human societies today?
2. Can you find examples that support the fact that this is a problem, or examples that show awareness of the problem (such as advocacy groups working for the rights of animals)? List and develop these examples.
